Michael Turner

There are few times in life when you are reminded just how fragile the human body is and when you are reminded of your own mortality. This is sad news to his Family, Friends and Fans the world over. Just this weekend at VS Worlds; T'Challa, Rashard and myself were discussing our favorite comic artist and i vehemently defended and pronounced Michael Turner as nothing less than the very best in the industry. I have purchased comics signed by, posters signed by, lithos and more because i love Turner's work. I never knew him personally though to meet him would have been a great honor. Wow! I am blown away.

"Turner is an artist best known for his work on books like “Witchblade,” where he got his start in comics, moving on to titles such as “Black Panther,” “Superman/Batman” and his very own creator owned series “Fathom” and “Soulfire” through his publishing company Aspen Comics. A prolific artist, he’s done work for both DC Comics and Marvel Comics, and has provided covers to some of the best-known comics published in the last ten years, including Brad Meltzer’s “Identity Crisis.”

In 2000, Turner was diagnosed with cancer -- chondrosarcoma in the right pelvis, which resulted in his losing his hip, 40% of his pelvis and three pounds of bone. What followed was 9 months of radiation. The cancer has gone into remission and returned multiple times since he was first diagnosed."

I am simply blown to pieces by this news. Knowing i will probably not see another cover or artwork related image created at the hands of Turner is sad. I am more sa for his family who loses the most in his death. While we looked toward him as a great artist who had blessed us with stunning visuals, it is they who knew him as a person. To them Darksid Revenge extends its deepest condolences.

Those wishing to send their condolences to Michael Turner's family are encouraged to send them to:
