Dont ask me how I forgot to post this review, but I did and I am sorry for those who have been following this series. Hope you enjoy the scans. Mighty Avengers #15 will be out soon. Mighty Avengers #14 got off to a real slow start. I was a little disappointed that the Howling Commandos back story just trailed off and wasn’t even mentioned in this issue. Instead this issue picked up where Mighty Avengers #12 left off, with the Avengers in the Savage Land facing off against their doppelgangers. The issue focused primarily on The Sentry, which would not have been a bad thing if the first 10 or so pages did not deal with clearing up the relationship between Sentry and the Void, even worse doing it with pages pulled from old comics.
My complaint with this type of writing is that in the case of such a big event like Secret Invasion if the reader does not know about the Sentry and the other characters there is probably a lot more about the story they are missing. Hell the reader who has been following comics for the last decade is in a fog about what’s going on in the story. The question then becomes; how important is this back story to the current main story.
Regardless of my feelings, the Skrull Vision is able to adequately confuse the Sentry to throw him out of the battle, simply by goading him with thoughts of the Void. The Sentry takes off into space where he is cuddled up like a baby believing he is the cause of the Secret Invasion just as the Skrull Jarvis planned. I know this is getting confusing, it’s a good thing I include scans with my reviews otherwise you would just be lost.
Well shortly after the Skrull forces that landed in New York are wreaking havoc and the Sentry’s tower is attacked by a Super Skrull, notice I said “A” Super Skrull, there are a lot of them now, not just Kl’rt. The Sentry’s wife is inside the twoer and is rescued by none other than, The Void, who looks awfully different than how we normally see the Void.
Overall I was not impressed with this issue. Other than getting insight into the characters in the Marvel Universe the Skrulls are afraid of; Thor, Scarlet Witch, Doctor Strange and of course The Sentry it was a really lackluster issue and read more like an origins story for the Void. There was a joke about Sentry not being Thor by a pedestrian when he was trying to stop a bank robbery that was pretty funny. I wanted to laugh and rip up the comic all at once.
I would give this issue a 3 out of 5. As a tie-in it served its purpose to introduce Sentry as a major player in the story, but did little else to expand that. We all already know Sentry is an incalculable, lunatic source in the Marvel Universe.
