Trinity #3 was a whole lot better than either of the previous issues. I actually was exicted about reading this issue to be truthful, finally the characters seem to be written well and drawn nicely and the depth to the story is looking slightly intriguing. I am not saying it has completely recovered from the previous issues, but it does a good job in reassuring the readers that this story is going somewhere. I think the story is suffering most at this point in the way it is being told. Let me explain…
The two part story telling where you get the piece of the Trinity and then an event that affects them is just not working and because of the break it makes it feel like the story is being stretched in order to go with the weekly format. This issue doesn’t do it any differently and the 2nd part story is just uninteresting, which is a turnaround from Trinity #1 and Trinity #2 where the 1st part stories were not worth reading.
Either way this issue accomplished something right. The Trinity arrive on scene to aide the JLA in their fight against the alien Konvikt. He could be the third person in the wheel that Morgan La Fey and Enigma keep talking about even though they mentioned previously that it could be Despero. The interesting thing about these panels where the JLA is fighting Konvikt is not even the artwork, its how similar the characterization feels like the normal Justice League Series. Even the Trinity upon entrance feels closely tied into the Justice League ongoing series which is refreshing.
The unfortunate part is that as soon as I got into this story and the fight with Konvikt the 1st part of the story was ended and we were left with the 2nd part of the story where we meet the tarot reader for the second time who apparently will play a much larger role in the series. The one bad thing I notice about the series is the creation of new characters and villains. This only allows the reader to get into those characters as much as the writer will allow. The trinity are not even in this issue for long, maybe about 3-4 pages where they arrive on the scene and every one is in admiration.
They even draw Black Canary in one of the panels looking like a kid in the candy shop as the Trinity arrive, and it makes you think WTF? But it’s still cool in some fashion. This is probably goignto be a great series for younger readers to become enamored with these characters, but it does very little for old readers you would be better off spending your money on other titles. The 2nd chapter in this issue was just uneventful as I found myself so uninterested in this Rita character. Unless the readers of this blog want more trinity this will probably be my last review for the series, 1 out of 3 isn’t good enough for me to keep going and purchasing this series, especially with the price of gas.
