Whew, all that Thor talk made me want… more Thor! So let’s close out the Day with Thor #12! That’s right this site might as well be called Thor something because I love this series and it is the one series I run to the store to pick up every month. This issue is almost a way of righting the origins of Loki for those readers who may not understand the character or who he was and why he was a man before and now a woman and it is a shocking surprise to many old fans that the female body he is using is that of Sif! I mean we saw her laid up in the hospital bed as an old lady trapped, but who would have thought Loki could go so far. God’s Hath no fury when Thor peers through the veil that Loki has up and wants the lord of mischief’s head on a plate. How much further will Loki twist Loki and what role will Hela continue to play in the fate of Thor? This series is definitely the best on the shelves and Thor’s influence in the Marvel Universe is being felt all over the place. Check out Thor #12!

You want Slugfest? Do you really want an EPIC slugfest? Then the comic book you need to grab off the shelves is Thor: Man of War. It’s another One-Shot that is catching up new Thor Fans on the mythos of the character and this one-shot definitely brings the hits. Thor vs. The Valkryie, Brunnhilda and Thor vs. Odin. I think many of the old Thor-heads know how this one goes down, but it doesn’t taint the images the least bit and it sure as hell is one good read. This is basically in a nutshell Thor being banished from Asgard in order to pay his penance and learn some humility which Odin feels can only be gotten from a lifetime on Midgard (Earth). The best parts are the battles in this Epic Slugfest. If you don’t believe me check out some of these scans and I guarantee you will be running to your local Comic shop in order to read some more of this goodness.

When the Seinfeld show said it was going to be a show about nothing, everybody said it couldn't/wouldn't work. It did. Thor is about something, about that character finding his destiny, but it's not doing what was expected...and yet it's doing very well.” (JMS, Newsarama)

I can’t sum up any better what the direction of Thor has been on better than the writer himself. You either like what has been or you don’t and if you don’t the pace isn’t going to change. Obviously, JMS hit the nail on the head because issue after issue is a top-seller for Marvel. I have been dying for this issue to hit the shelf and I was happy that I did.
The great part about this issue is it wraps up for us where this story fits into continuity. Captain America is dead and it is 1 year later. We know this because Thor calls Captain America, Steve Rogers’ soul back from the brink so he can have a final chat with him and pay his respects. There is no major action sequences; just more plotting on the part of Loki and more revelation as to where the story is going. Still it comes across as one of the better reads I have read this entire month. This issue compels readers to get more in-depth with there comics and proves that not every thing has to be a Michael Bay movie to be successful. Go pick up Thor and enjoy a masterpiece. This series has it all, emotion, suspense, religion, depth, I could go on, I feel like I am reading a Babylon 5script when I read these issues, go experience for yourself what all the excitement is about.

Secret Invasion: Thor #3 was a hammer down event. It was the conclusion to an invasion of Asgard that ended abruptly with one battle and failed to depict the full-scale invasion. In fact I lost sight of the major invasion going on in the mini and began reading this as if there was a new villain introduced. Most of the Asgardian’s all seemed so focused on the battle that Thor is having with the Skrull warrior than they are with the massive invasion that was going on. In fact the invasion seems to have disappeared altogether from this last issue and part of Secret Invasion: Thor #2.
Either way the outcome of this battle seemed inevitable, or we knew Thor would triumph and he does it in godly fashion, more so than any of the other Asgardian’s could realize. The weird part is Beta Ray Bill’s involvement in the invasion is short lived because he disappears unimpeded off world right after the battle, no Skrull Warships in sight? It lends question to when this battle actually occurs in the whole secret invasion plans if it were not for the last few panels where Thor reveals in a way that this is just before he enters the battle in the main Secret Invasion series.
Either way there are some major issues with the series that are only outshined by the work that Fraction and crew do with what they do display which is magnificent. Portrayal of power levels here for Thor verse what they have been in the ongoing is something that also needs to be evaluated as they were a point of contention when I read Hulk vs. Thor in the Hulk ongoing. Enjoy what Fraction gives you and you will not be disappointed, look for the faults and you will clearly be pissed.
