While the appearance of the Dark Avengers is on the horizon it appears the Marvel U must take a good look at the fall of the Mighty Avengers in issue #20. Guess who the finger is pointed at, yep! Iron Man! While his future in the Marvel U is looking grim over the next upcoming year it is clear that these Avengers will have a lot to come back from and in issue #20 they had a lot to deal with, no more than Hank Pym, who returns to bury his wife and learn the events that have taken place since his abduction. This is a great read for those who loved the character Janet Pym aka the Wasp and it is even more insightful into the greater role she played on the Avengers roster as a founder and leader. She will be missed. There is also an appearance by Thor and that is sure to raise some eyebrows. He is definitely getting a lot of exposure in the Marvel U and I am one happy camper because of it!

Today I am going to give reviews for three comics, it almost has to be done that way because of the way the story unties and the way Bendis and crew have been plotting the Secret Invasion. There are some choices moments that occur in Secret Invasion #7 that are big hit surprised but unless you have been reading Mighty Avengers or New Avengers you probably will read them and pass them off as totally insignificant events. So the first review of the day is going to be Mighty Avengers #19, all the series this week were good without a doubt, but Mighty Avengers stuck out in my mind for a number of reasons and it will lead to a Surprise in Secret Invasion #7, see if you can figure it out from the scans.
This is an issue that focuses entirely on the Mar-vell identity and who holds the mantle currently. We all know the real Mar-Vell is dead, but we have a Skrull impostor who is having troubles with his programming and wants to actually defend the Earth. This is not surprising because we have seen how many Hank Pym Sleeper agents have been in continuity. It seems anyone with a complex mind has these same troubles as is the case with the Kree warrior who defended Earth Mar-vell. The issue builds up the exciting story of the character and his affiliation with the Avengers as the Skrull sleeper agent battles his own, while a once imprisoned Noh-Varr watches and questions who he is and what his purpose in this reality are. If you have no clue who Noh-Varr and Mar-Vell you are not a fan of Marvel’s cosmic entities or probably dead from the neck up and not reading Avengers at all, go Wikipedia them and prepare for more scanned goodness of New Avenger #46 and Secret Invasion #7 later today.

I wrote New Avengers #45 earlier knowing I was disappointed with all of the Flashback storytelling, but also because I was excited about Mighty Avengers #18. This kind of still counts as flashback story telling, but there are no Retcons here because this takes us back to something that really made Mighty Avengers pop off the pages for us and that’s the return of Nick Fury and his new Commando’s. TBS and TBZ, you guys over at UDE need to get on this and work this team into the next Marvel set I tell ya because these boys and girls are simply badass!
This flashback side story tells of how Nick Fury whipped these boys and girls into shape for the invasion that he knew was to come and boy did he lay it into them in this series. First they show the torture of Yo-Yo by whom you would think is Hydra, but its really just good ol’ Nick Fury testing his teams mental game.After that he whoops on Stonewalls ass to prove a point and follows all of that up with making them perform a deadly mission given the circumstance. Kidnap the director of SHIELD, Maria Hill. Funny enough this wasn’t just a test for his boys and girls but for Maria Hill as well.
Nick Fury wanted to make sure she listened to him and had not gone Skrully on him and used those LMD’s like he warned her and his rag tag group of Commando’s were successful in their snatch and grab, proving they were ready for the Big Leagues…
By the way Boys and girls we need to start promoting this Marvel Evolutions TCG outside of our community, everyone in our community readign our blogs plays versus, start looking to other sources to spread the enws on, go Viral with it. Drop some messages on the Forums over at Marvel.com where they have no advertisement in any of their sections for this game. Drop some notes down wherever you frequesnt on the internet and lay the crumbs so we can catch as many rats as possible.

Looking at the secret invasion tie-in’s its definitely starting to dry up when you have almost three issues of what’s going on with Hank Pym and which Skrull is Hank Pym today. We have had a lot of Mighty Avenger and even other tie-ins that have focused on Hank Pym and the fact of the matter is he hasn’t been that big in the main series. He did get things kicked off with fooling Reed Richards. I am not going to go to deep into this issue because it really was more of the same Hank Pym stories and how the Skrulls have had a hard time mimicking or keeping inline the Skrull agents posing as him. If you are a Hank Pym fan then you may want to read this, but otherwise its right up there with a read on the porcelain chair, and not one you are sitting there for a while trying to read, just one you pick up and get finished on multiple visits.

We got the Elektra reveal way before Secret Invasion even started, it was the precursor to the whole affair so why did we have to wait so long for the how it all happened? I mean if you believe Bendis this was all planned so what is the reason for such a late review? I know this is a lot of questions, especially since this issue of Mighty Avengers was hardly worth the read. If you are an Elektra fan then feel free to go pick it up and find out what we all know, that she was a Skrull, but you can figure that out without this issue, you just need to know how and why.
I can’t say I liked this issue. I liked it even less than I did Mighty Avengers #15 which focused on Pym’s switch which makes something even more confusing about this issue. Why is Mighty Avengers #17 being billed as the truth about Hank Pym? We just got the switch and all in Mighty Avengers #15 is there more to that story and if it is, why couldn’t they have spent more time on that? See more questions. And believe me by the time you are done reading this you are going to have more.
The previews were enough for you to get the idea. Electro was paid off to assist with the escape from the Raft and Elektra is attacked by a Skrull double. This could have been a good fight scene if the art wasn’t so crappy. Pham does a terrible job depicting one of the prettier women in the Marvel U. Elektra looks like an old lady and the movements look tired. It’s even funnier when the Skrull double’s head is set ablaze a la Ghost Rider. Elektra proves she is up to the task with this fight and dispatches of her Skrull assailant who turns into an attractive Skrull, but obviously these Skrulls don’t play fair because down comes Wolverine and Daredevil. Except Daredevil has a few tricks up his sleeve, he has Nightcrawler’s Teleportation and Cyclops’ optic beams? Ok, but he just looks like Daredevil, so what the hell is the deal with all the Super Skrulls looking like a bit of everyone powers they have? 
Well Elektra dispatches of them both and before she is assailed yet again, by another Super Skrull who looks like a mix of Colossus and Vision. He easily defeats the battered and bruised Elektra. And before you start questioning yourself and running through your old issues of Secret Invasion, yes I said he! So why is the Skrull corpse a female? All of the other Skrulls have turned to their normal Skrulls when you look at them all. This Skrull also has another twist he is self-sacrifice and the Skrull Queen’s lover. Yeah so this Skrulls name is Pagon and he is the martyr.
Well before Pagon takes his exit and why is beyond me; the Skrull invaders act as if Elektra’s death will be something so big? Can anyone tell me why her death is such a huge thing, especially since it is a Skrull? Other than shock and awe I can’t see her death is a huge thing in the Marvel U. Either way it is also revealed how she usurps leadership of The Hand in the first place which is nothing at all as dramatic as one may have expected. She simply decapitates the former leader; that is all! And much like that this issue of Mighty Avengers received very little notice because it just wasn’t compelling from artwork to writing and if anything it did it gave those who are calling Bendis a liar about this whole 4 year pre-planning little more than BS a leg to stand on. My greatest question is why did we see the sexy female Skrull Elektra corpse instead of Pagon’s?
