While the appearance of the Dark Avengers is on the horizon it appears the Marvel U must take a good look at the fall of the Mighty Avengers in issue #20. Guess who the finger is pointed at, yep! Iron Man! While his future in the Marvel U is looking grim over the next upcoming year it is clear that these Avengers will have a lot to come back from and in issue #20 they had a lot to deal with, no more than Hank Pym, who returns to bury his wife and learn the events that have taken place since his abduction. This is a great read for those who loved the character Janet Pym aka the Wasp and it is even more insightful into the greater role she played on the Avengers roster as a founder and leader. She will be missed. There is also an appearance by Thor and that is sure to raise some eyebrows. He is definitely getting a lot of exposure in the Marvel U and I am one happy camper because of it!

Well, guess who is at your front door in the middle of the night if you are living in the Marvel Universe today? Norman Osborn! He has taken the reins of the United States Government Superhuman Registration Act and in Secret Invasion: Dark Reigns he lays down the gauntlet for all who want to know just what he has planned. It plays out as half intriguing and damn near too crazy to call. I’m not sure where this ferry is going at all, but it promises to be one hell of the ride as the cast of the Illumi-naughty are assembled by Osborn and given the rules to this Dark Reign. It is definitely going to be a tumultuous year in the Marvel Universe for heroes of all walks of life, not to mention the U.S.A. Many readers will want to read this just to see how Emma Frost got wrapped up in this sinister syndicate of baddies. Namor and Von Doom have always been associates and off and on again alliances, let’s see what the King’s have in store. The Hood aka Dormammu and Loki also have their own agenda and while Osborn may be off stabbing the Swordsman in fits of rage, how long will this alliance really last? Check it out!

Secret Invasion Inhumans has been an excellent title read. I love the Inhumans and Blackbolt ranks up there with the great powerhouses of the Marvel Universe, but he is always overlooked as are the rest of the Inhumans, but with this prelude to War of Kings it looks like things are about to change, and that is for the better for the Inhumans, seriously! Basic concept of Secret Invasion Inhumans has been Blackbolt has been captured by the Skrulls, and the Inhuman Queen Medusa wants her husband back, all this while Attilan is under attack by a Skrull invasion.
It is obvious they get Black Bolt back, but what was important is what they had to do to get him back, which is form an alliance with the Kree. There are also some even better implications in that fact when you considered that Crystal is going to marry Ronan the Accuser in order to seal the deal. There is also the revelation that Blackbolt and Maximus will rule the Inhumans together. I really thought that Maximus would just relinquish his power he seemed very bored with the power once he became ruler which is typical Maximus.
The revelation that the Inhumans are now in one accord with Maximus’s belief that they are a powerhouse in the universe and can ill afford to remain in the shadows of the moon while there enemies bring war to them is going to be the biggest catalyst in all likelihood for the War of Kings. I am looking forward to the War of Kings event with giddy anticipation.
Again I want to remind my fellow Virginian residents that Groovy Gecko’s in Williamsburg, VA will be hosting it’s Marvel Evolutions Release Celebration for the VS System TCG on December 13th, 2008. If you are an old player or a new player looking at getting into some superhero cardboard action then swing by, I am sure there will be prizes and more.

New Avengers #47 is not a read you must have, basically it is a back story issue that really doesn’t affect anything at all. Major takeaway is that Jessica Jones and Luke Cage’s daughter has been taken by the Jarvis Skrull Impostor and they are both pissed. I can’t really review this issue because it is not a story I am too interested in, but it was written well and does clear up anything any new reader was questioning when they read Secret Invasion #8 and #7 and questioned why it was such a big deal. I am positive there is going to be more here than meets the eye, but I doubt it’s a story tangent I will be too interested in.
Here are some tidbits to get your handle on… If you are going to be in the Williamsburg, Virginia area next week, Groovy Geckos is going to hold its release celebration for MEV at 12:00 PM. Groovy Geckos is located at 1505-B Richmond Road in Williamsburg, VA. Great bunch of guys to play with and they are really helpful with new players. If you live in the Richmond area and you want to attend leave a comment here if you want to carpool to get down there.
Also check out TCGplayer.com. Mike is trying to put together a MWS tournament and wants to know who is interested. Prize support is always dependent upon the number of players…

The question of the day for comic readers the world wide today is probably, what has Secret Invasion been for you? There are going to be many schools of thought on this, many will say it was garbage, and many will say it was great. You want a divergent view from my own? You can get one many places, but I am gonna roll Lebeau’s DC fanboy perspective on the lay down of Secret Invasion here on Readrant.wordpress.com. I am going to disagree with everything Lebeau probably said on his blog and I will tell you why, Secret Invasion has been something more than Bendis’ retcon storytelling, it has been a bridge to Marvel’s two universes, don’t understand, read on…
Like it or not, but believe it, there has been a war amongst Marvel Readers, there are those who love the terran comics and those who have loved the cosmos and each has been spectacular in their own right, but the problem has always been where do the two meet up? When was the last time the cosmos were as closely tied to the affairs of the terran comics as they were during stints such as The Infinity Gauntlet? It’s been awhile since the implications of either have affected the whole of the Marvel U and Secret Invasion was a way to Bridge those gaps, reintroduce old characters whose importance lingered in the shadow.
I mean we got the death of Janet Pym and the Return of the God of Thunder, Thor. We got the Rebirth of an Icon in the form of a new person upholding the persona in Captain America. We got the beginning of a whole new secret cabal on equal status with the once reigning Illuminati now disbanded in the form of the Dark Reign Illuminati; Norman Osborn, Loki, Doom, Namor, The Hood aka Dormammu incarnate and Emma Frost. That alone is going to have major implications on the future of the Marvel Universe. The biggest surprise is Norman Osborne’s Thunderbolts Initiative took front and center and nudged out everyone else, The lunatics are running the asylum, the Marvel U’s terran affairs have truly gone topsy-turvy. We got the rebirth of the Nova Corps and the rebirth of Wendell Vaughn aka Quasar, the reunion of Mockingbird and Clint Barton. Best of all we got what a lot of people wanted before the Iron Man movie came out and that was Tony Stark on the out with everyone and getting his just desserts for all the arrogance he has been displaying over the years. We got a Kree-Inhuman Alliance which is going to be a groundbreaking affair in 2009 when the Kree and Inhumans go to war with the Sh’iar and Emperor Vulcan.
Granted we got all of this at some sick expense and low budget enemy in the Skrulls. Yes, I said it, these little green men are like the night patrol men of the shopping mall with their flashlights, if you thought at one point they were going to do something significant then you were an idiot, pat yourself on the back and chase your tail dumb. Overall the boons of this invasion are bountiful with more questions and stories coming forth for the new year than can be displayed even by Joe Q in his Cup o’ Joe editorial.
Was this the epic event that Marvel was touting, no, but it is a prelude to what things may come in other books. I am more curious to read X-Men titles just so I can see when and where Emma Frost is going to turn on Cyclops and the X-Men. We have known Loki was going to get her revenge in Thor comics since Thor #4. Namor was also a give if you read Sub-Mariner: The Initiative. Osborn was no real surprise and nor was Doom if you were reading Thor comics. He and Loki were plotting in there. I will agree with Lebeau on a couple of things with regards to Secret Invasion #8, Thor’s awesomeness was Thor’s awesomeness. TBS and TBZ take notice and lets get a Full ASGARDIAN team in the Versus System TCG or I stop buying boxes. Damn I bought 6 boxes of MEV.
